The Story of Château de la Crée
600 years of wine-making history
Evenstad Family
Between Burgundy and Oregon
In April 2015, the Evenstad Family acquired the Château de la Crée. Pioneers in Oregon, the family founded the Domaine Serene in 1989, when the state only boasted a few wine estates.
Today, the Domaine Serene spans over 110 hectares of vines within the Willamette Valley and owes its success to extensive work on each parcel, as well as a careful blend of rootstocks, clones and terroirs. Passionate about Burgundy and its wines, the Evenstad Family fulfilled a long-standing dream by acquiring the Château de la Crée to produce and vinify the prestigious appellations of the Côte de Beaune. The dream continued to unfold with the creation of the Domaine Evenstad in 2021.

Château de la Crée
A Hidden Treasure in the Côte d'Or
The Château de la Crée estate in Santenay, Burgundy dates back to the 15th Century, when it was built on the land of Nicolas Rolin, chancellor to Philippe Le Bon and founder of the Hospices de Beaune.
Today the Château’s vineyards include seven rare Premier Cru blocks located entirely along the renowned Côte d’Or escarpment, home to some of the world’s most storied Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines.
Comprising 25 acres of prime vineyard blocks in Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay and Maranges, the Château de la Crée estate features a two-to-one varietal ratio of Pinot Noir to Chardonnay, with 40% of all plantings in Premier Cru sites. In conversion into an organic farming, the practices are employed in all our vineyards to drive optimal terroir expression, and ensure soil and plant health.
Both Château de la Crée and Domaine Serene are uncompromising in their dedication to terroir transparency and a focus on sustainability.
